Inspired by a childhood nourished by farm-fresh vegetables and the pure, simple pleasures of growing his own food, San Francisco native, Preston Raisin purchased his six-acre farm property in 2012.

Built in 1946 and located just a mile from the historic Sonoma plaza, Raisin had a vision for his new property that reflected everything that mattered to him -- sustainability, community and healthy living.

As a busy father, raising five children with his wife in San Francisco, Raisin sought to create a peaceful escape from city life for himself and his family and to pass on the farm values and lessons that had so deeply shaped him as a child.

Upon purchasing the land in 2012, Raisin quickly realized the potential of his farm space, inspiring him to share it with others...

Green Design

In an effort to bridge the gap between centuries-old agrarian traditions and modern-day travelers, corporate workers and wellness seekers, Raisin set out to create a one-of-a-kind gathering space in Sonoma that would make farm life accessible to all.

With a reverence toward Sonoma's rich history and an eye for the future, Raisin's reinvigoration efforts both inside and out included:

  • ground-up construction of two Modern Barnhouses, equipped with 46 solar panels that meet 100% of the farm's energy needs

  • installation of electric car charging station for green drivers

  • fully-equipped industrial kitchen with commercial-grade appliances for group meal prep and cooking classes

  • exclusive use of well water for drip irrigation system throughout farm to save an average of 70% of water compared to conventional irrigation methods

  • active composting program to create rich, fertile soil for healthy crops and reduce waste

  • cover crop plantings for erosion control, improved soil structure, moisture retention and carbon sequestration

  • organic and pesticide-free farming practices

Completed in November of 2016, Sonoma Broadway Farms now raises over thirty varietals of organic vegetables, in addition to fruit trees, herbs, chickens, honeybees, goats and more and opens up its doors throughout the year to travelers, overnight vacation guests, school groups and the local community.

Raisin installed 40' vaulted, skylit ceilings in the Main Barn House to match the airy, spaciousness of the farm land.

Raisin salvaged wood from an original barn on the property to create a grand, storied dining table for the Main Barn House.

Completed in 2016, the Main Barn House offers multiple spaces for groups to gather and unwind.
